A new concept of thermal crushing of hard rocks is examined in this study. The theoretical methods developed to analyze thermal stresses and fragmentation induced by partial and complete surface heating of rock blocks are correlated with experimental results. A three-dimensional state of tensile stresses induced in the rock specimen interior during surface heating initiates fragmentation.

The Rock Puncher is a large, aggressive species of Fauna. The Rock Puncher has a bulky, armored body. It has six articulated feet and two arms at the front. The head shows four, orange eyes at the front and and a pair of mandibles directly underneath. Its body ends in a small, short, shrimp-like tail. Attached to the arms are two large club-like extremities, presumably used to deliver powerful

Abstract : The research is devoted to experimental thermal-mechanical fragmentation of Missouri red granite in place, and to supporting theoretical analyses. Theoretical analyses of temperature and thermal stress distribution are progressing well and procedures are being refined for use of more accurate boundary conditions, temperature-dependent rock properties, and other input parameters.

1. Introduction. Owing to continued research on underground resources, underground spaces, and other issues related to underground geotechnical engineering, the efficiency of underground rock crushing technology has increased in recent years .Mechanical rock breaking is the most widely used rock breaking method at present; however, it is difficult to use mechanical cutting on hard rock.
the worn bit starts crushing the rock rather than shearing it. Frictional energy generated by increased WOB heats the cutter, which leads to thermal degradation of the PDC.2 When torque and ROP abruptly decline, the driller is forced to pull out of the hole to replace the worn bit (previous page).3 As manufacturers worked to improve PDC

In a gyratory crusher, a round moving crushing surface is located within a round hard shell which serves as the stationary surface (figure 3). The crushing action is created by the closing the gap between the hard crushing surface attached to the spindle and the concave liners (fixed) mounted on the main frame of the crusher.

High wearing components are the primary or underlying driver of drilling costs. The CRCp activiites are directed towards extending the wear life performance of key components in the drilling system. Reducing unit costs ($/m of hole) arises by extending drilling time between change-outs (bit on the bottom); or more utilised hours of drill

At present, a similar material most commonly used in the similarity model experiment of rock blasting is cement mortar. However, it is not transparent, which leads to the problem that the cracks in the model made of cement mortar after the test cannot be observed directly. Therefore, a kind of transparent hard rock-like material that can replace the existing model material to solve the above

Zong-Xian Zhang, in Rock Fracture and Blasting, 2016. 21.4.1.1 Different Energy Efficiencies. In rock drilling, blasting, crushing, and grinding, the effective energy used in rock breakage is found to be quite small in comparison with the total input energy. For example, in rock drilling it is estimated that only 10% of the input energy is used to fracture rock, while most of the input energy
Furthermore, the high heating rate (e.g., flame-jet heating (Rossi et al. 2018), laser-jet process (Jamali et al. 2017)) is another method to induce a considerable number of thermal microcracks and thus weakens the mechanical properties of rocks for crushing and hard rock drilling.
Laboratory tests for the determination of thermo-mechanical properties of three rock types were performed at temperatures up to 400ºC. Results showed that for the medium and coarse Granitic Gneisses, the coefficient of thermal expansion and Young''s modulus are strongly temperature and temperature history dependent.

Thermal spalling drills such as jet-piercing and forced-flame drills heat rocks to 370 to 540°C (700 to 1000°F) to create thermal stresses that spall the rock ().These devices have limited application because most rocks will not thermally spall (Maurer, 1968, 1980). Melting and vaporization drills utilize high-temperature devices such as lasers or electron beams to melt and vaporize rock ().
